Gridded average dekadal Soil Water Index (SWI) at uniform grid resolution of 0.05° by 0.05° used in Gascoigne et al. (2024).

The Soil Water Index quantifies the moisture condition at various depths in the soil. It is mainly driven by precipitation via the process of infiltration. Various t-values are available: 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 40, 60, 100. The T- value simulates the infiltration time into deeper soil layers and hence indicates qualitatively the depth of the SWI estimate. T40 was selected as being generally representative, based on expert advice.
