The "Earth Observation and Community Mapping for Urban Resilience in Kinshasa" project focuses on collecting precise data concerning Kinshasa's climate risks and urban resilience. This data was produced by VITO and the University of Kinshasa and is intended to contribute to and complement the broader "Kin Elenda" project (initiated by the World Bank in May 2021 and with the Ministry of Urban Planning and Housing of the Democratic Republic of Congo).

The dataset contains:

  • A comprehensive training dataset for land cover at high resolution (<1m) which can be used to train and evaluate AI models.
  • Local data layers on solid waste, drainage, and ravines mapped and validated in the field.
